Woonam Kim_California Institute of the Arts - Experimental Animation (MFA)
Woonam Kim is an Associate Professor in the 3D Computer Animation department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design Born and raised in South Korea, Woonam studied Korean Literature before pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental Animation at California Institute of the Arts. Before joining ECU, Woonam worked as an animator and CG artist for studios including Industrial Light and Magic, Digital Domain, and Microsoft Game Studios. His visual effects credits include Star Wars: Episode III, War of the Worlds, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Thor, and Ender's Game. Woonam's expertise includes character animation, layout, pre-visualization, and game development. Woonam's academic and applied research explores creative storytelling and the integration of art and technology. His goal is to apply his visual effects and game production expertise in computer graphics and animation to an academic platform. Woonam's research interests include computer graphics, animation, gaming, visualization, extended reality, interactive design, creative storytelling, and methods of combining art and technology. Woonam has completed animation and/or game development work with different partners including Providence Health Care BC, Vancouver Police Department, CityStudio Vancouver, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, Kids Brain Health Network, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea (Vancouver)
