About Cooper Hometest
쿠퍼유니온 홈테스트는 시각적 표현에만 치중하기보다는 지원학생 스스로 주어진 문제에 대한 자신만의 답을 논리적으로 도출하고 제안하며, 시각적 표현을 이용하여 심사위원 및 관람자를 쉽게 설득할 수 있는 ‘힘’이 있는지의 여부를 판단하기 위함 입니다.
우리는 때로 주어진 질문에 정답이 존재한다고 생각하고 그 정답이 무엇인지 알아 맞추려고 합니다. 또는 주어진 질문에 '틀리지 않는 대답'을 하면 충분하다고 생각하는 경향이 있습니다. '나서지 않으면 중간이라도 간다'라는 몹쓸말이 우리를 도전으로부터 멀어지게 만듭니다.
하지만 홈테스트의 의의는 바로 정답이 없는 질문에 완전히 새롭게 적극적으로 자신만의 답을 만들고 설득하는것에 핵심이 있습니다. 자신의 의견을 이야기하는 것에 매우 소극적인 성향과 틀리면 안된다는 사고방식(이미 정답이 존재한다는 고정관념)의 틀을 깨지 않으면 Cooper Hometest에서 절대로 좋은 성과를 나타내기가 어렵습니다.
홈테스트는 application을 제출 후 약 1~2주 내외로 도착하며, 테스트 과제를 부여받으면 약 3주이내로 모든것(Art: 6 prompts / Architecture: 11 prompts)을 완료/제출해야하는 만큼 사전에 포트폴리오나 영어성적 준비가 철저히 이루어져야 합니다. 짧은 시간안에 많은 과제들을 소화할 수 있는 능력이 매우 강하게 요구되어지는 부분입니다.
Early Decision 지원자는 10월초부터 12월 중순까지, Regular Decision 지원자는 10월초부터 1월 중하순까지 과거 질문들을 가지고 예행연습을 진행합니다. 실전 Hometest 문제 수령 시 질문에 대한 분석부터 Hometest 완성/제출까지 1대 1로 수업을 진행하며 SOP에 관한 검수 및 방향설정도 모두 관리를 받도록 합니다.

쿠퍼홈테스트를 부여받기 전까지 매주 2회씩 일대일 미팅을 가지며 과거부여되었던 Hometest 과제와 성공 및 실패 사례를 분석하고 리서치를 통하여 문제의 핵심에 도달하는 모의 훈련을 진행 합니다.
자신이 이야기 하고자 하는 Ideation이 이루어지면, 이를 어떻게 논리적으로 소통할지에 대해 고민하고, 가장 효율적인 시각화 형식과 전략이 무엇인지, 그리고 보편적 동의와 공감을 얻어내는 방법에대해 심도있는 Discussion 형식의 수업이 진행됩니다.
모든 Prep Program의 과정이 자신의 아이디어북에 기록되어지도록
매주 점검은 물론 아이디어북 구성에 대한 집중적인 관리가 병행되어집니다.
Cooper Union Hometest questions for School of Art (2025)
1. A Plan Cut of a Composition
• Visualize a plan view (horizontal section) of a three-dimensional composition cut at a specific height. The cut edges must be distinctly indicated with white lines.
2. One Hundred Lines, Density Field
• Create a density field on a two-dimensional surface using exactly 100 lines (including points, straight lines, or curves). The composition must follow a structured concept such as a bundle, fold, or grid.
3. Spatial Intersection
• Select two objects from the provided list (glass, doorknob, book, chair, mirror) and precisely draw how these two objects spatially penetrate and intersect each other.
4. Analog vs. AI Collage
• Complete a collage or visual work by contrasting or combining an AI-generated image (created using a prompt generator) with your own hand-made, analog artwork.
5. Two Self-Portrait Experiments
• Produce a series of two self-portraits that experimentally express your identity under two contrasting physical environments or psychological constraints.
6. Territorial Measurement
• Visually measure and define your own invisible boundaries, space, or personal/social territory through artistic materials and structural methods.
